First Mine Site
The First Mine Site is located 25km SW of Busselton and 15km ENE of Margaret River township on Osmington Rd. The mine will be an underground coal mine, with a target production rate of around 1.2 million tonnes a year (to begin with) with a lifespan of the coal mine being between 20-25 yrs (according to LDO).
The proposed mining method will consist of two mineshafts, the depth has not been clarified but is roughly 200 – 250m below the ground, from which a skip hoist will run bringing up to 10 tonnes of coal to the surface approximately every four minutes. This will then be loaded into trucks, which will then transport the coal to the proposed cleaning site (currently Capel). There will be a truck leaving and returning at approximately every nine minutes 24/7 for 365 days of the year.
